Circuit des Remparts Angoulême 2019

This year saw our first visit to Angoulême, and it definitely won’t be the last. The biggest surprise, aside from the amazing buildings of this beautiful city, was how quiet and relaxed the event was.

With many of the club cars and drivers out on the rally on the Saturday, we spent a relaxing day wandering the streets finding paddocks for different ‘plateau’ dotted around the back roads, watching the cars prepping for race day.

It was great to see so many race cars that we hadn’t seen before, including some with beautiful 1920s artistic engineering and more Bugatti than we’ve ever seen in one place. Race day saw the car clubs and public return to the streets, which were lined with plenty of interesting cars - of course plenty of Citroëns to celebrate the centenary. The public parking at the Champ de Mars held a particularly impressive mix of cars.

The racing itself was highly entertaining, although the blazing sunshine (34 degrees in the shade) made sitting in the Tribune Cathedrale somewhat unbearable! Overall this was a spectacular event, with plenty to keep any car fan busy all weekend, and is highly recommended. It’s also only 60 miles from Bonnes Routes, along some excellent driving roads with really easily accessible parking, so come and stay with us and enjoy the event!
